Satellite Network Equipment

The equipment required for this network consists of an Outdoor Unit (ODU) and an Indoor Unit (IDU). The outdoor equipment includes a .98 meter or 1.2m Ku-band satellite dish with a 1 or 2 watt RF trasmit/receive radio. This equipment can be mounted virtually anywhere using pole mounts, wall mounts, non-penetrating ground and roof mounts, and other standard satellite mounting technologies.

The ODU is connected via coaxial cable (1 pair of cables) to the IDU, which performs the IF to IP conversion and manages the local IP network. This IDU is available in a 2 versions:

DW7700

The DW7700, part of HNS' DW7000 family, is a high-performance broadband satellite router designed to provide high-speed access for large enterprise, government, and small/medium enterprise (SME) markets. Recognizing the worldwide demand by enterprises for ever-increasing amounts of bandwidth and the ability to support many simultaneous users, the DW7700 has been designed to provide unsurpassed performance for even the most bandwidth-intensive applications. With support for two simultaneous LAN subnets, the DW7700 has the flexibility to handle new enterprise IP networking requirements. Further, the DW7700 supports integrated serial connectivity, thus providing the ideal solution for bridging legacy applications into an IP environment.
The DW7700 receives and transmits data over the satellite via the Network Operations Center (NOC). Security is ensured through DES encryption and an integrated conditional access in the international configuration. The DW7700 also supports HNS' innovative VPN Accelerator technology to ensure broadband speeds are maintained even when using IPSec VPN clients from market leaders such as Cisco, Nortel, and Check Point.
The DW7700 satellite router passes IP data packets to and from any IP device on the LAN and has much of the functionality of an IP router. The DW7700 incorporates HNS' advanced Performance Enhancing Proxy (PEP) feature, which increases throughput performance and maximizes the user's experience and satisfaction. The DW7700 also supports HNS' TurboPageR feature, providing HTTP acceleration for lightning-fast browser performance and advanced Quality of Service features to ensure that applications get the priority and bandwidth they require.

DW7000

The DW7000, part of the DW7000 product family, is a high-performance broadband satellite router designed to provide high-speed access for the consumer, small office/home office, and enterprise markets. Designed to provide both versatility and performance, the DW7000 provides unsurpassed performance for even the most bandwidth-intensive applications.
The DW7000 receives and transmits data over the satellite via the Network Operations Center (NOC). TCP connections can be initiated to or from hosts at remote locations. Security is assured through DES encryption and an integrated conditional access. In addition, all user intranet communications can be isolated from other enterprise intranets and from remotes accessing the "public" Internet operating in the same network.
The DW7000 broadband satellite router passes IP data packets to and from any IP device on the LAN and has much of the functionality of a typical IP router. The DW7000 incorporates Hughes' advanced Performance Enhancing Proxy (PEP) feature, which increases throughput performance and maximizes the user's experience and satisfaction. The DW7000 also supports Hughes' TurboPageR feature providing HTTP acceleration for lightning-fast browser performance. The DW7000 supports advanced quality of service (QoS) features to ensure that customers get the priority and bandwidth they require.
